Sage Agastya heard the haughty Vindhya mountains had grown too tall and were blocking the sun. He visited and the mountains bowed to him, in awe of his wisdom. Agastya requested them to remain prostrated until he returned. They agreed out of respect, without force or struggle. Agastya never returned and the mountains have stayed prostrated to this day.
